Hot Rods Game Two 4-1 to Dash

Bowling Green, Kentucky – Dominic Fritton dealt 5.0 shutout innings, Ryan Cermak smashed a solo home run, but the Bowling Green Hot Rods (0-2) fell 4-1 to the Winston-Salem Dash (2-0) in game two of the SAL Divisional Series on Thursday night at Bowling Green Ballpark in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

The Dash scored first, plating three runs in the top of the second inning against starting pitcher Jonathan Russell. Nick McLain and Braden Holcomb logged back-to-back base knocks, and Ely Brown snuck a two-out RBI single to left-center field. Javier Mogollon tripled to left field, handing Winston-Salem a 3-0 advantage.

The visitors added another run in the top of the third inning against Russell. James Taussig clubbed a solo homer to right-center field, building the Winston-Salem advantage to 4-0.

Fritton kept the Dash in check with 5.0 frames from the top of the fourth to the eighth. The southpaw tallied six punchouts in relief, striking out the side during the top of the fifth inning.

Bowling Green cracked the scoreboard with one run against Winston-Salem starter Grant Umberger. Cermak pummeled a solo shot to right-center field, cutting the lead down to 4-1.

Reliever Jake Curtis followed up with 2.2 shutout innings from there, wrapping up a 4-1 final score.

Umberger (1-0) earned the win with 6.1 innings, giving up just one run on three hits and racking up 11 strikeouts. Russell (0-1) took the loss, surrendering four runs on five hits, three walks, and five strikeouts over 3.0 frames. Curtis (1) delivered the save, throwing 2.2 perfect innings and fanning four batters.
