Altoona, PA (June 12, 2026) – Despite a pair of Doug Hodo homers and an inspired ninth-inning rally, the Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, came up just short against the Altoona Curve, the Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, by a 10-8 final on Friday night.
Chesapeake (25-35) scored three in the top of the ninth and brought the game’s tying run to the plate, but were unable to push the crucial tying runs home late on Friday.
Friday night’s contest began in a very similar fashion to Thursday for the Baysox. For the second consecutive night, Chesapeake’s leadoff hitter homered on the second pitch of the contest. This time, it was Hodo, who hammered a 417-foot drive out to left for his first Baysox long ball of the season.

The Curve quickly countered in the bottom of the first. Four consecutive batters would reach in the bottom of the first, including run scoring hits from Javier Rivas and Shalin Polanco to build a 3-1 Altoona edge. The Curve added two more runs in the third, including a Titus Dimitru homer, with their first five runs on Friday charged to Baysox right-handed starter Juaron Watts-Brown (L, 0-5), who pitched the opening three innings.
Chesapeake sliced a 6-1 deficit in the fifth to 6-4 by scoring a run on an error prior to a two-run double from Anderson De Los Santos. Altoona countered with a run on a bases loaded walk in the bottom half, as the Baysox bats were quieted by Curve right-hander Jake Shirk (W, 2-1) over most of his two and one-third innings across the middle frames.

Altoona tacked on three more runs in the seventh with RBI hits from Dimitru and Callan Moss, in addition to a bases-loaded walk to Matt King. Baysox pitching walked eight on Friday night.
Chesapeake showed plenty of fight late. Hodo roped his second solo shot of the night down the left field line, completing his first career multi-homer game as a professional. In the ninth, the Baysox began the inning with four consecutive hits. Thomas Sosa led off the frame with a double and was plated on a Willy Vasquez single. Frederick Bencosme followed up with his second single of the night, setting the stage for a Carter Young two-run double to make it a two-run game and bring the tying run to the plate. However, Curve right-hander Mike Walsh would retire the next three hitters, ending the Baysox rally just short.
