Echavarria & Hounds Stymie Hooks

MIDLAND - Steven Echavarria struck out eight over five innings Thursday night, leading the RockHounds to a 5-3 win over the Hooks at Momentum Bank Ballpark.

Corpus Christi, limited to three hits on the evening, leads the series, 2-1.

Joey Mancini limited Midland to one run over three first three innings but exited the game after allowing the first three to reach in the fourth.

A Hudson Leach strikeout and a Chase Call outfield assist, his fifth in less than two months at Double-A, enabled the Hooks to escape the frame without any damage. Call turned a fly ball to left into a double play after throwing out Bobby Boser trying to tag from third.

Anthony Huezo manufactured the first run for Corpus Christi. After drawing a walk to open the fifth, Huezo stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and then the 20-year-old scored on a ground ball by Alejandro Nuñez. The effort ended a 14.0-inning scoreless streak by Echavarria.

Following a four-run Midland fifth, Corpus Christi battled back by scoring three times in the sixth. Zach Daudet singled and Justin Thomas Jr. walked to start the inning. Jack Moss sent them home by blistering a two-run double to right-center.

With two doubles on the day, Moss is 4-for-10 with four RBIs in three games as a Hook.

Colby Langford and Railin Perez each pitched scoreless relief for Corpus Christi. Langford struck out three to keep the Hounds at bay in the sixth and seventh. Perez, who breezed two in a perfect eighth, has not been charged with a run over his last five appearances, spanning 8.0 innings.
