SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Spartanburgers’ offense came alive on the final Fifth Third Firework Friday, churning out double-digit runs for the second time this week. The ‘Burgers (60-70, 26-38) rode the bats and a solid start from Ben DeTaeye to a comfortable 10-3 victory over the Jersey Shore BlueClaws (46-82, 20-43).

After a scoreless top of the first from DeTaeye, the Spartanburgers struck right away against Jersey Shore’s Cade Obermueller (L, 0-3). The southpaw walked a trio in the first, and Hub City capitalized with a Quincy Scott sacrifice fly. The ‘Burgers added three runs in the second. Command remained an issue for Obermueller, who walked two and hit Neurelin Montero. With the bases loaded, Paxton Kling ripped a two-RBI single, Maxton Martin poked a sacrifice fly to right, and Chandler Pollard scored on a double steal with Kling.

DeTaeye (W, 3-0) struck out a career-high seven through his five innings. The Iowa product allowed a pair of homers, a two-run blast by Brady Day and a solo homer by Nate Humphreys, but DeTaeye otherwise limited the damage.

Danyody Pulido got the final out of the second for Jersey Shore. After a scoreless third, the righty walked the leadoff man in the fourth. Hub City scratched across a run on a second sacrifice fly from Martin.

Keegan Batka took over in the fifth for the BlueClaws. With two on and two outs, Batka walked Neurelin Montero to load the bases. Pollard's infield single brought in a run. Kling then ripped a two-RBI single to put Hub City on top 8-3. Camron Hill entered to get the final out of the inning. Scott took Hill deep in the sixth for a two-run homer to up the lead to 10-3.

Hub City's bullpen faced the minimum over the final four innings of the night. Anthony Susac handled the sixth and seventh. Jesus Gamez took care of the eighth, and Frank Martinez used a double play in the ninth to finish off the win.

The Spartanburgers try for a series win on Saturday afternoon at 4:35 p.m. ET. Hub City will start Enrique Segura (1-5, 6.31 ERA) against Tanner Gresham (2-5, 5.08 ERA).
