Hub City Drops Sunday Shootout at Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. — In its final road game of 2026, Hub City almost climbed out of an early hole. The ‘Burgers trailed by nine but rallied late to bring the tying run on deck in the top of the ninth in Greensboro. The Grasshoppers (77-49, 36-24) held on to beat the Spartanburgers (57-69, 23-36) 10-7.

Rehabber Garrett McMillan got the start for the Grasshoppers and worked around a base hit in each of his two innings of work. Anthony Astudillo (L, 0-1) stepped to the rubber for his High-A debut in the bottom of the first. A strikeout started the afternoon, but Edward Florentino singled, and Yordany De Los Santos smacked a two-run homer to put Greensboro in front. Astudillo started both the second and third innings with back-to-back walks, but the righty managed two scoreless innings.

Hung-Leng Chang (W, 6-6) entered to pitch the third for the Grasshoppers. He started his afternoon with a pair of walks. Gleider Figuereo singled to load the bases with no outs. A strikeout and popout quieted the threat before Antonis Macias walked to put Hub City on the board. A groundout kept Greensboro in the lead.

After a one-two-three top of the fourth, Anthony Susac came out of the Hub City bullpen. With one on and one out, Dylan Palmer doubled to left to restore a two-run lead. In the fifth, Susac again faced a one-on and one-out situation. This time, Eddie King Jr. took him deep to make it 5-1. After a groundout and a double from Dylan Palmer, Jesus Gamez took over for Susac.

Gamez struggled to get the final out of the fifth. He walked the first batter he faced, and Wyatt Sanford singled in a sixth run. Florentino added an RBI single of his own, and De Los Santos turned it into a six-run inning with a two-run double.

Chang preserved the lead with a scoreless fifth. With two on and two out in the top of the sixth, Victor Cabreja climbed the mound and got the final out of the frame. Cabreja added a clean seventh inning too.

Gamez bounced back with a scoreless sixth. Wily Villar entered for the seventh and immediately conceded a tenth run. Carlos Caro led off with a single, and Sanford doubled him home. Villar limited the damage to just one.

Hub City showed life against Brandon Cain in the eighth. Quincy Scott and Carter Garate reached on singles. With one out, they moved to second and third on a wild pitch. Evan Morrison drove them both in. A Paxton Kling single forced Greensboro back to the bullpen for Cesar Aquino. Figuereo reached on a fielding error at first, allowing Morrision to score. Casey Cook grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored Kling. Maxton Martin then bombed his fourth homer of the week to make it 10-7. A strikeout ended another six-run inning.

Cole Roland shut down the Grasshoppers in the eighth. Adolfo Oviedo (S, 2) came in for the ninth. After two quick outs, Arturo De Freitas extended the game with a double. A Morrison groundout finished the game and the series.

Hub City returns to Fifth Third Park on Tuesday for the final series of the 2026 season. The Spartanburgers welcome the Jersey Shore Blue Claws, High-A affiliate of the Phillies. First pitch on Tuesday night is at 6:35 p.m. ET.
