Series Preview: Prepare for Takeoff! Inaugural Week at CarMax Park

Opening homestand packed with two fireworks shows, giveaways, skydiving and more!

The wait is finally over! After years of dreaming and nearly two years since we first broke ground, the Richmond Flying Squirrels are ready to take flight in our brand-new home. CarMax Park opens for the very first time for an unforgettable inaugural homestand against the Altoona Curve, Double-A affiliate

The wait is finally over! After years of dreaming and nearly two years since we first broke ground, the Richmond Flying Squirrels are ready to take flight in our brand-new home. CarMax Park opens for the very first time for an unforgettable inaugural homestand against the Altoona Curve, Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, from Tuesday, April 7, through Sunday, April 12.

First Flight, presented by the Richmond Times-Dispatch, will be a week-long celebration, featuring a ribbon cutting, an inaugural season rally towel giveaway, special guest first pitches, fireworks, skydiving, dueling pianos, kids aviator giveaway and Kids Run the Bases and so much more!

Each night of Opening Week, get to the front gates early to enjoy the pre-game Blastoff Bash before gates open. The FUNN begins at 5 p.m. and will feature music, vendors, and more!

Opening week festivities will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday with a Blastoff Bash outside the Main Gates featuring music, vendors and more. The first 60,000 fans throughout the week will receive an Inaugural Series Rally Towel, presented by CarMax.

Whether you are a long-time fan or visiting us for the first time, CarMax Park offers what MLB calls a “must-visit Minor League spot” for 2026.

While Opening Night is sold-out, tickets are available Wednesday, April 8 through Sunday, April 12. Fans can purchase tickets online here, by phone at 804-359-3866 or in person at the Flying Squirrels ticket office.

Tuesday, April 7 vs. Altoona Curve: Opening Night
7:05 p.m. | Gates 5:30 p.m. | Blastoff Bash 5 p.m.

  • Celebrate the grand opening of CarMax Park with a ribbon cutting at the Main Gates.

  • Enjoy music from DJ Ron, DJ Carter, Batter Up Brass Band and Flying Squirrels Drumline

  • Stick around after the game for In-Your-Face Fireworks presented by Chick-Fil-A following the game.

  • Opening Night is presented by CarMax.

Wednesday, April 8 vs. Altoona Curve: Happy Hour and Best in Show Dog Night
7:05 p.m. | Gates 5:30 p.m. | Blastoff Bash 5 p.m.

  • Enjoy happy hour specials from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., including beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages. $3 12-ounce domestic drafts will be available at most concession stands and domestic beer carts.

  • Bring your furry best friend to Best in Show Dog Night presented by Tito’s Handmade Vodka. Dog sections can be found in sections 117 and 118.

  • Dueling Pianists Felix and Fingers perform your favorite tunes throughout the night.

  • DJ Ron will spin the hits all night long.

  • Presented by Bon Secours.

Thursday, April 9 vs. Altoona Curve: No Limits Skydiving

  • Witness a thrilling pregame skydiving show featuring No Limits Skydiving.

  • Two-time MLB All-Star and Richmond native Gene Alley will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

  • Check out the latest Fauxback merch as we imagine what the Flying Squirrels would’ve looked like in the 1970s.

2:05 p.m. | Gates 12:30 p.m. | Blastoff Bash 12 p.m.

  • Get to the front gates early to enjoy the pre-game Blastoff Bash before gates open. The FUNN begins at 12 p.m. and will feature music, vendors, and more!

  • DJ Carter will spin the hits all game.

  • The first 1,000 fans ages 14 and younger will get kids' aviators to celebrate the First Flight at CarMax Park.

  • Kids 14 and under are invited to stick around after the game and run the bases in the brand-new ballpark.
