Squirrels drop eighth straight

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Flying Squirrels lost to the Chesapeake Baysox, 8-2, on Thursday night at CarMax Park.

The Flying Squirrels (73-60, 30-35 second half) had their season-long losing streak reach eight games, including all three games against the Baysox (66-67, 26-38) this week.

Sabin Ceballos led off the bottom of the second with a solo homer against Baysox starter Anthony Eyanson, his 18^th of the season. He is now tied with Jarrett Parker (2013) and Mario Lisson (2014) for the fifth-most homers in a season in franchise history.

In the top of the third, Frederick Bencosme hit a three-run homer to give the Baysox a 3-1 lead against Flying Squirrels starter Niko Mazza (Loss, 0-2).

Anderson De Los Santos led off the top of the fifth with a double before the game was delayed one hour and 14 minutes for a rain shower. Manuel Mercedes replaced Mazza when play resumed and Edwin Amparo drove in De Los Santos with a groundout to extend the Chesapeake lead to 4-1.

In the top of the sixth, Mercedes walked Tavian Josenberger with the bases loaded to push the Chesapeake lead to 5-1.

Ceballos led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk and later scored on an RBI single by Maui Ahuna to close the score to 5-2.

Victor Figueroa was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh. In the top of the ninth, Ethan Anderson hit a two-run double to open an 8-2 lead.

Eyanson allowed one run over four innings and struck out six for the Baysox. Alex Pham (Win, 1-3) threw a scoreless fifth.

The series continues on Friday night. Left-hander Jacob Bresnahan (0-1, 9.00) will start for Richmond countered by Chesapeake right-hander JT Quinn (2-0, 2.50). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at CarMax Park.
